'I'm definitely ready for a world title fight': Katie Taylor looking to bigger prizes

Taylor pulled brought her professional fight record to (6-0) following a third-round stoppage win over USA’s Jasmine Clarkson.

KATIE TAYLOR IS eyeing up a world title shot, after comfortably bringing her professional fight record to (6-0) at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn last night.

The Bray native executed a third-round stoppage against Jasmine Clarkson to successfully defend her WBA female Inter-Continental lightweight title, and enhance her position in the senior ranks.

The bout was on the undercard of the clash between Mikey Garcia-Adrien Broner.

Taylor overpowered Clarkson from the outset and landed some deadly blows in the early stages before the American’s corner intervened to stop the fight ahead of the fourth round.

It was a satisfactory result for Taylor, and speaking on Fight Hub TV after the fight, she expressed her wish to get a shot at a world title soon.

“I think I’m definitely ready for a world title fight. I’m ready and willing to step into the ring with anyone, so I hope a world title is on the way next.

She added that she hopes to return to America for another fight in the future, including making an appearance at Madison Square Garden on St Patrick’s Day.

“It was great and a fantastic experience for my first fight in the US. There was a lot of nerves before the fight but I thought the whole occasion was great and it was great to get the stoppage as well.

“I thought the reception was fantastic and there was a lot of Irish in the crowd which made it very special for me. I hope to create a good fanbase over here as I said earlier on in the week and I hope I gained a few more fans here tonight.

“I don’t know what the plan is but the more fights out here the better. I think I’m definitely well known back home in Ireland and in the UK, so it would be great to get more fights over here.”

She added:

“I thought I did ok and got caught with a few silly shots as well and a bit sloppy at times, but I thought it was a good performance. I felt good and strong in there tonight.”

Elsewhere, Cork’s Noel Murphy — who was also competing on the same fight card, –maintained his undefeated record with a points victory over Julio Cesar Sanchez.

The judges marked the bout 80-72, 79-73, 78-74 to bring Murphy’s record to (11-0).
